It is good that the Alpha-based Camaro coupe is joining the ATS coupe on the market....
But where is the Buick Riviera? The 2007 concept above is nice looking, but might as well be a Regal coupe or something... it isn't exactly screaming Riviera style. Even if it were based on the larger floor plan similar to the new Caddy CTS, and a bit bigger than ATS coupe or Camaro... something new, but stylish enough to revive the nameplate properly, would be interesting.
I would love to see a 21st century car, with the riviera styling, such as the slick open grille, and raked back windshield of the '66 Riviera, and the back end of a late-60's/early-70's Boat Tail Rivieras.

Possibly unpopular opinion: the rear end of that Riviera looks absolutely awful.

The boat tail riviera was iconic, and actually a take off of the C2 Corvette Stingray.
It is wide, because it is a full-size Grand Touring coupe, a cruiser, not a smaller sporty car.
But I can see how it isn't exactly benign and might be controversial.
A new 21st century boat-tail would be something interesting, though, in a market where the few coupes available, are either tied to other retro designs, or otherwise quite bland.
Coupes aren't highly practical cars, so they can afford to be stylish, and push the styling envelope a bit.

A two-door version of the Avenir concept would have something of a boattail, I think.

We'll get that as soon as we get the Buick Avenir.
So never.

Maybe slightly, but more of a cruise-ship stern tail, rather than a personal tapered boat tail.

I must admit, from the thumbnail, I thought that was a Model S coupe...

Not that far off, actually. They are both graceful, clean designs... but a bit on the safe side.

If the middle of the tail didn't jut out like that, it would be instantly better.
That said, I would still drive one.

The 65 Riv is the best looking.
Any other opinions are wrong.

That is what makes it a boat tail. ;-)

I can see why people like the muscular, brutish first-gen Rivs like that, and the clam-shell headlight grille covers are cool as hell...
But I like the sleeker 66, pictured above, with the knife-edged fenders on either side of the full-width grille. the 68-later cars all looked worse that the full-width grille cars.

True! I don't hate it, I just think it would have more universal appeal if it tapered to a point just before it hit the edge, giving it a tiny bit of deck space between the point and the edge.
The wide-ness...is not a problem. My car is super wide, too, and that's part of what makes it amazing.

Too bad we'll never get it because GM and buick are too chickenshit to make it.

I agree 65-66 are the best years.
Could you imagine if the engineers had to do the every model year thing today? I think they'd die.
